1. Copies of Your Identification – Always make copies of your identifications & keep the originals in a safe, secure spot inside your hotel or vacation rental. Carry only photocopies when travelling about.
2. Prescriptions – When travelling by plane all prescription medication should be kept in your carry-on bag. If you’re travelling with restricted medications such as pain killers you may be required to provide the original prescription receipt. Don’t forget it’s best to travel with more medication than is required for the duration of your vacation.
3. A Paper Copy of Emergency Contact Numbers – No you’re not seeing things – I did write paper copy! The first thing that is likely to get lost or malfunction on a vacation is your trusty electronic device, so it’s best to carry a paper copy of emergency contacts with you in the event your phone isn’t cooperating (sigh).
4. Hand Sanitizer – So whether you’re travelling by plane, train, or automobile, hand sanitizer will always come in handy. With the coming flu season this will be more important than ever! Remember to look for a non-antibacterial hand sanitizer, preferably alcohol based as antibacterial hand sanitizers can lead to bacterial resistance and are known to include endocrine disrupting ingredients (I know – it’s a mouth-full … just remember alcohol not antibacterial).
Bonus Tip: Try purchasing a large pencil case (preferably the flat kind that are meant to fit inside a notebook) – This can make a perfect carrying case for your important documents & because it’s flexible it won’t take up too much room in your luggage.
